Graton Town Square

May contain: text and advertisement

Context

The Graton Community Services District (GCSD) is in-contract to acquire the last undeveloped lot in downtown Graton, 9155 Graton Road, to create a town square for the benefit of Graton residents, workers, and visitors.  Acquisition funding will be entirely separate from sewer ratepayer funds. To date, the GCSD has raised almost $300k in public funding and will continue grant writing and fundraising from public and private sources in the coming years to support the Square's development.

Vision

While the GCSD is now officially purchasing the property, this is just the first step. Over the next 6-12 months, our vision is to engage the community, raise funds for the down payment, and begin an inclusive process to co-create a town square that is vibrant, welcoming, and reflective of Graton.

The community will help shape the design, programming, operations, and governance of this shared space.  Early ideas from residents include natural space, community gathering & recreation, West County Regional Trail bike stop, and local markets/commerce.

The GCSD welcomes your input-- please take our brief input survey

We will launch a participatory visioning and design process in early 2024.

Graton Community Services District (GCSD) Role

The Graton Community Services District is a California Special District. Our charter directs us to manage community services for the residents and business of Graton. Beyond wastewater collection and treatment services, this charter gives us the ability to step into service of our special Graton community as the organizing entity for this town square acquisition.

Funding for acquisition, development, and maintenance of the town square will always be entirely separate from sewer-rate-payer dollars. We are deeply grateful for the strong support of our Sonoma County and Supervisor Lynda Hopkins in helping bring this vision to fruition.
